Good animal grazing palatability is an important aspect of developing a new forage rape. The Plant and Food Research Ltd./PGG Wrightson Seeds brassica breeding programme (Forage Innovations Limited) develops new cultivars with increased palatability by conducting animal grazing preference trials comparing a new breeding line's palatability against commercially available cultivars. Titan forage rape is a high yielding, intermediate height rape which was bred to replace Maxima Plus. Titan has high aphid and virus tolerance and has shown excellent palatability against other commercially available rapes.
“Titan forage rape is an important tool that feeds more lambs and frees up country faster. The change to using Titan has transformed the farm from store to finishing 75% of lambs (two thirds of them off the rape).”
