"Responded Great"
"It was largely native pasture and the majority of the block had never seen fertiliser or seed before," says station manager Angus Ross. "We oversowed from 350m to 1000m in altitude with Tahora II and got a great response with flowering white clover from bottom to top."
"In the first year we only ran ewes on the block and weaned lambs at 21kg liveweight. Last year we carried 2500 ewes, weaned lambs at 30.5kg liveweight and ewe weights were also up. We also calved 150 cows there. So we have quadrupled the liveweight carried on the block compared with year one of oversowing."
"I'm very pleased with how Tahora II has performed. We should have done it years ago," says Angus. Tahora II small leaf white clover is also used on the station's cultivated flats as part of a permanent pasture mix.
