Keeps On Growing
Hill country sheep and beef farmers, Andrew and Fiona Ross, Albury, say they have used Maverick GII short rotation ryegrass for the last six years for its reliable ability to "just keep growing" in tough conditions.
"After two to three years under extreme conditions we are just now resowing our third lot of Maverick GII. We get very summer dry and it gets shut up for haymaking and strip grazed. It caters for all situations," says Andrew.
The property has up to 20 hectares in Maverick GII short rotation rygrass at a time, with the cultivar both spring and autumn sown. "It is good all year round and copes with extremes of weather.
"It works for our system."
