Performance and Persistence
The home block, at Onga Onga near Waipukurau, milks 1400 cows on a 400 hectare milking platform. The property milks all year round, with 250 to 300 cows calved in autumn for winter milking. The second property, at Eketahuna in the Tararua District, milks 630 cows on 190 hectares effective under a once-a-day milking regime.
"We started using Delish at Eketahuna three years ago as some of the pastures were run down and poorly producing. We had success with direct drilling, both after spraying and hard grazing, and had such good results we started using Delish on the home block as well.
"We find it gets up and goes, with great production. We have direct drilled here, even in February and had at least three grazings off it before winter (under irrigation)."
